When I was playing Call of Duty multiplayer this weekend I unlocked the Player Card option.
For the people who haven’t played it yet or lived under a rock the last week. (That is an option to create a little avatar for yourself with existing symbols).

I was browsing trough them and I stopped and stared to the Swastika. I rubbed my Eyes and looked again… Yes there is a freakin Nazi Cross in there! Originally it is not a bad symbol and the Nazi’s stole it. Still now it is generally known as a Nazi symbol.

And I told myself this is not okay, using this symbol to represent yourself in an online shooter that is very disrespectful especially in countries like the Netherlands and Germany(2nd world war) not a very smart move from TreyArch.
I’m almost starting to believe that this is getting standard from Activision in Call of Duty Games to gain some kind of publicity, they couldn’t actually be that ignorant?
Exactly like Inifnity Ward in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 that reached world news with their “No Russian Mission” (Youtube link)

I knew this was not going to be publicly accepted.
And tadaa today I came across the following news: All Xbox Live members using this symbol will get banned due fundemental lack of respect.

Statement from Microsoft‘s Stephen Toulouse AKA The Xbox Live Police on people defending the symbol:
Most of them are just contrarians. They would never dare to wear a swastika openly, but they love to argue about how the world has “misunderstood” this symbol. Or they view any opportunity for human interaction, no matter the appropriateness, to push their point.

Personally I totally agree with Microsoft and I think they are sending out the right message here.
I think Sony should follow with their Playstation Network.

Call of Duty Black Ops Keeps Breaking Records

Call of Duty Black Ops Raised 476 miljoen euros in 5 days! Activision released these figures.
This is biggest pile of money any entertainment product has ever raised in this short amount of time!

The other record they broke is having 2.6 milion players play Call of Duty Black Ops simultaneously on Xbox Live within 24 hours!

First Call Of Duty Black Ops Patch Online

After the release the guys of Treyarch have not been nose picking and celebrating their succes instead they already put the first patch for Call of Duty Black Ops online.

The following stuff has been fixed:

Updates voor de Playstation 3
Improved matchmaking to find matches significantly faster.
Improved matchmaking to ensure that players are more effectively matched to games with the best networking conditions.
Improved host selection to ensure that the best host is always selected in the pre-game lobby.
Improved party system to ensure that parties don’t get broken apart.
Disable ability to join Private Match, Combat Training and Theater lobbies when searching for Player Match games.
Server-side and game-side changes to decrease the amount of failed Film uploads.
Weekly and Monthly leaderboards will now track all kills, deaths and assists properly (All Time leaderboards were not affected by this).
Prevention of Combat Training stats getting crossed with Player Match stats under rare conditions.
Prevention of temporary loss of functionality when a button was being held down at the point of a disconnect.
Additional fine-tuning of audio levels and ranges for footsteps and gunfire.
Additional fine-tuning of audio levels for bomb plants/defuses.
Additional online security enhancements.
Optimization to prevent friends list from spamming user while in game – will improve game performance for users with large numbers of friends.
