Diablo 3 ‘external’ beta coming Q3 2011

May 9, 2011

Wrap your mind around that headline: Some time this year, specifically between July and September, someone that doesn’t work for Blizzard is going to be putting some heavy time into Diablo 3 … or at least that’s the plan. Here’s the full quote from Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime, speaking today during Activision’s quarterly earnings call, for fear you won’t believe it unless it’s straight from the source:

“We began internal company-wide testing last week,” Morhaime confirmed. “The game looks great, and we’re currently targeting a Q3 launch for external beta testing.”

Though Morhaime says the team’s working to get the game out before 2012, he stopped short of making any official release date announcement. Surprise.

CoD Modern Warfare 2: No More Russian, Cod Black Ops: Swastika, Whats Next?

November 22, 2010

When I was playing Call of Duty multiplayer this weekend I unlocked the Player Card option.
For the people who haven’t played it yet or lived under a rock the last week. (That is an option to create a little avatar for yourself with existing symbols).

I was browsing trough them and I stopped and stared to the Swastika. I rubbed my Eyes and looked again… Yes there is a freakin Nazi Cross in there! Originally it is not a bad symbol and the Nazi’s stole it. Still now it is generally known as a Nazi symbol.

And I told myself this is not okay, using this symbol to represent yourself in an online shooter that is very disrespectful especially in countries like the Netherlands and Germany(2nd world war) not a very smart move from TreyArch.
I’m almost starting to believe that this is getting standard from Activision in Call of Duty Games to gain some kind of publicity, they couldn’t actually be that ignorant?
Exactly like Inifnity Ward in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 that reached world news with their “No Russian Mission” (Youtube link)

No Russian Mission:

I knew this was not going to be publicly accepted.
And tadaa today I came across the following news: All Xbox Live members using this symbol will get banned due fundemental lack of respect.

Statement from Microsoft‘s Stephen Toulouse AKA The Xbox Live Police on people defending the symbol:
Most of them are just contrarians. They would never dare to wear a swastika openly, but they love to argue about how the world has “misunderstood” this symbol. Or they view any opportunity for human interaction, no matter the appropriateness, to push their point.

Personally I totally agree with Microsoft and I think they are sending out the right message here.
I think Sony should follow with their Playstation Network.

What’s your opinoin regarding this? Let us know!

Call of Duty Black Ops Keeps Breaking Records

Call of Duty Black Ops Raised 476 miljoen euros in 5 days! Activision released these figures.
This is biggest pile of money any entertainment product has ever raised in this short amount of time!

The other record they broke is having 2.6 milion players play Call of Duty Black Ops simultaneously on Xbox Live within 24 hours!

Blizzard Goes Console With Diablo III?

November 18, 2010

Remember what Blizzard said last year on Blizzcon? That they haven’t yet ruled out Diablo 3 for consoles?
Well now they are actually taking action on it by opening the following positions:
Console: lead designer
Console: lead programmer
Console: senior producer

However their statement on the Diablo III Community Site makes it clear that Blizzard is only exploring a Diablo related concept for the consoles and that this does not confirm anything.

Also they promised this will not affect the release date for the mac and PC version, which is still ages away..

Check the “A” Button

I don’t think the question is whether it is possible for consoles or not; Gameplay wise it wouldn’t change a lot besides the fact that a controller has to be used.

I don’t think the question for Blizzard to ask themselves is will it make money or not because it definitely will.
But more if the game won’t be milked out like for example a Call of Duty(Imaginable since Activision is breathing in their necks)and loose all it’s charms.

I would definitely like to see it on consoles, but please Blizzard do not ruin the charms of this game!
