Crytek Confirms DirectX 11 Support for Crysis 2 Is Coming!

April 11, 2011

Bossfight Gaming Blog - Crysis 2
Crysis 2 is a babe. A hot, awesome, digitally amazing babe… That could be that tiny bit more amazing if it could unleash its full graphic prowess upon the eagerly awaiting machines of PC enthusiasts the world over.

While the general thoughts amongst the community were that Crytek would obviously be shipping a DX 11 patch for their FPS-blockbuster title at some point, the developers of the title have gone ahead and officially announced it to quell any naysayers.

Tom Ebsworth, the community manager over at MyCrysis and Crytek posted a thread reading;

We would like to announce that there will be a DX11 patch released for Crysis 2. We are working to get the best out of DX11, so we’ll wait to announce the features until a little closer to release.

Like we originally thought (even prior to this ‘official’ announcement), however there’s still no release date in sight but we will keep you updated.

Minecraft Gets Final Release Date

April 8, 2011

Bossfight Gaming Blog - Minecraft
Such is the scale of the Minecraft phenomenon that it’s easy to forget the game is still in beta. Well, developer Mojang has finally put a date on when the official ‘finished’ version will be available: 11th November 2011.

Creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson made the announcement on his blog, explaining that the final game shouldn’t differ too much from what you’re playing now.

“It’s a bit tricky to really do a release for Minecraft as we keep updating it all the time,”

he wrote.

“For one, the version we deem as the ‘full version’ won’t be very different at all from what the game was like a week ago, and we’ll keep adding features after the release as well, so it’s really more of a milestone when we finally get rid of the beta label, and some kind of goal for us to work towards.

“The plan is to be open with this and try to get people to cheer us on as much as possible, but to be open with the fact that the game won’t change much at the actual release day.

“It’s the same date as a few other games and movies, and the one I’m the most excited about is Skyrim,” he added, “so that will be a nice reward for me if we actually manage to hit that date!”

Notch certainly deserves a victory lap – earlier this week he revealed that the game has brought in around £20 million in revenue so far.

Minecraft >Moneycraft?

Bossfight Gaming Blog - Minecraft

The developer of Minecraft just announced how much money he made out of his hit game.

This one man game made him 20 million dollars, still some money has to go to pay pall and to taxes.
But as you can imagin there still will be a lot of money left.
This is what he says about this himself:

“It all ends up in an account somewhere, and I try not to look at it,”

Persson also wrote:

“I get a normal salary these days for day to day stuff, but there’s a big pile somewhere. Paypal takes a cut, there are taxes, and such, but it’s still a huge wad of money.”

“I Try not to look at it” YEAH RIGHT!

Crysis 2 PC DirectX 11 Patch

March 31, 2011

Bossfight Gaming Blog - Crysis 2
Crysis 2 PC users will see a DirectX 11 patch in two to three months time, so says a report from our colleagues at Eurogamer.cz.

According to an anonymous trusted source, Crytek only started to develop for DirectX 11 in November 2010 and was unable to get it ready in time for the game’s launch earlier this month.

The source also claimed that DirectX 10 will not be supported in future, as it’s rendered obsolete by DirectX 11.

Yesterday, a Crytek community manager posting on the game’s official forum poured water on speculation that a patch was imminent.

“No patch was ever confirmed, I have no idea why this website even posted such information”

he wrote, referring to a Maximum PC story claiming that an update would arrive on Monday.

A spokesperson for publisher EA then added:

“We have not made any official announcements about a patch yet.”

Crysis 2 PC, Xbox VS PS3

March 24, 2011

Bossfight Gamingblog Crysis 2 Art

For your information the graphical ranking of Crysis between the different platforms. I’ve seen a lot of Fanboy discussions but this one is based on facts.

1. PC
No surprise that on the PC Platform Crysis 2 looks at it’s best.
In terms of framerate, level of detail and the resolution.
Depends of course on what kind of machine you have at home. But if you have the machine for it be sure to get it!

2. Xbox 360
An unexpected second place for the Xbox 360 better framerate, higher resolution, and some extra effects compared to the PS3.

3. PS 3
The most powerfull console on the market you would expect it to be on the second spot right behind the PC. But a worse framerate, lower resolution, and missing effects compared to the 360 release hurt it. PS3 owners expect more.

Does this mean developers are still more comfortable with developing for the Xbox 360? I can imagin that it is easier to go from PC to Xbox.
But why not put the effort into the PS3 version to really show it’s power? This game was the chance to really use the cell processor of the PS3.
This because of the techdemo status Crysis has.. so you would expect the emphasis should be on the graphics on every platform!

Feel free to drop you opinion about this.

Blizzard pro-cannibalism: Diablo 3 could eat into World of Warcraft audience

March 23, 2011

Bossfight Gaming Blog - Diablo 3

While Blizzard cofounder Frank Pearce is unexpectedly bullish on EA‘s prospects with its Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO – and of course Blizz‘s own next-gen, untitled “Titan” MMO – he sees another potential product that could cannibalize his massive World of Warcraft audience.

“I think even a shorter-term concern is whether or not we might see cannibalization of WoW players from Diablo 3 when we launch it, because it’s a similar type of experience,”

Pearce told Gamasutra.

“Not exactly similar, but it’s that RPG feel.”

While Diablo 3 currently has no release date – it’s possible it may not make it out this year – Pearce said

“it’s better we cannibalize them ourselves than let someone else do that, because if we cannibalize them ourselves, they’re still a Blizzard customer.”

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is maybe the only kind of cannibalism that we can endorse!

Battlefield 3 might support Move and 3D

March 19, 2011

Bossfight Gaming Blog - Battlefield

A lot of people are looking forward to this game. Not only because it’s awsome predecessor but also because of the awsome footage they showed of the game.

When we asked Dice if they are going to support Playstation Move and 3D he said the following:

“We are thinking about it, yes, definitely”

The Art Director added:

“Of course we look at what the others are doing. At the same time, we’re looking at what we can improve. I think the technology we have is a step beyond what the others have”

Do you think they should invest time in this? Or do you think they should invest this time in improving their current work?
