Diablo 3 ‘external’ beta coming Q3 2011

May 9, 2011

Wrap your mind around that headline: Some time this year, specifically between July and September, someone that doesn’t work for Blizzard is going to be putting some heavy time into Diablo 3 … or at least that’s the plan. Here’s the full quote from Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime, speaking today during Activision’s quarterly earnings call, for fear you won’t believe it unless it’s straight from the source:

“We began internal company-wide testing last week,” Morhaime confirmed. “The game looks great, and we’re currently targeting a Q3 launch for external beta testing.”

Though Morhaime says the team’s working to get the game out before 2012, he stopped short of making any official release date announcement. Surprise.

LA Noire on three discs

Bossfight Gaming Blog - LA Noire

LA Noire is going to be a three disc game for the Xbox 360, so Rockstar says:

“L.A. Noire was always going to be a massive game, from the size and detail of the world to the length of the cases, and of course, the sheer amount of MotionScan data required for the faces of over 400 actors in-game.

To tell the story and make the game we wanted to make, we knew that it was going to take an entire single layer Blu-ray disc and three Xbox discs.”

Geohot Speaks to PSN Hacker

April 29, 2011

Bossfight Gaming Blog - PSN Down

Geo Hotz claims he is innocent and has the following to say:

“Running homebrew and exploring security on your devices is cool, hacking into someone else’s server and stealing databases of user info is not cool. You make the hacking community look bad, even if it is aimed at douches like Sony.”

“Sony needs to accept that they no longer own and control the PS3 when they sell it to you. Notice it’s only PSN that gave away all your personal data, not Xbox Live when the 360 was hacked, not iTunes when the iPhone was jailbroken, and not GMail when Android was rooted.”

And this is his message to the Hackers:

“To the perpetrator, two things. You are clearly talented and will have plenty of money(or a jail sentence and bankruptcy) coming to you in the future. Don’t be a dick and sell people’s information,”

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Multiplayer would not work

April 13, 2011

Few months ago the successor of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion got announced: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Bethesda is working hard on this game to have it released by the end of this year.

Director Marketing and PR Pete Hines Explains us why multiplayer in Skyrim would not work. It is investigated and it turned out that the multiplayer would have negative impact on the singleplayer. Hines explains:

“What we’ve tried to do is help people understand that in game development, it’s all about trade-offs. One of our mantras here is that you can do anything — you just can’t do everything. So certainly we could do multiplayer. Unquestionably. It’s not a thing we’re technically incapable of figuring out. But when we draw up the list of things we’d like to have cut or change in order to support that feature, what we end up with is unpalatable. It’d make a lesser version of the game. And there is no doubt on the dev side that that is the case.”

That means no multiplayer for Skyrim. A bad thing? I don’t think so nowadays a big misunderstanding is that games need mulitplayer to be good.
Often this even pulls the overal perception of a game into the ground for example Bioshock 2. Multiplayer wasn’t that good if they invested that time and money into the single player experience the game would have been a lot better. Now it is average single and multiplayer while Bioshock one was a great single player experience.
Think this also applies Skyrim so good choice Bethesda!

Minecraft >Moneycraft?

Bossfight Gaming Blog - Minecraft

The developer of Minecraft just announced how much money he made out of his hit game.

This one man game made him 20 million dollars, still some money has to go to pay pall and to taxes.
But as you can imagin there still will be a lot of money left.
This is what he says about this himself:

“It all ends up in an account somewhere, and I try not to look at it,”

Persson also wrote:

“I get a normal salary these days for day to day stuff, but there’s a big pile somewhere. Paypal takes a cut, there are taxes, and such, but it’s still a huge wad of money.”

“I Try not to look at it” YEAH RIGHT!
